Overview

How Dollu serves media, broadcast & gaming.

Broadcasters, sports federations, OTT platforms, esports organisers and game studios move enormous amounts of latency-sensitive traffic and are judged on the frame that arrives late. Dollu operates a 1.4 Tbps backbone across 40+ PoPs with dense peering in London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Ashburn, Mumbai and Singapore, and we build services on it that this industry actually needs: managed contribution and distribution circuits for live video, a CDN for on-demand and live streaming, temporary connectivity for stadiums and event venues, and DDoS scrubbing sized for the attacks that game servers attract.

For live production we deliver contribution links from venues, studios and outside-broadcast trucks to playout and cloud production platforms over Ethernet private lines, dedicated internet or diverse-path IP with SRT, RIST or JPEG XS transport, and distribute finished feeds to affiliates, platforms and CDNs. Event connectivity is provisioned for a weekend or a season, with fibre, microwave or bonded cellular access and an engineer on site when it matters. Our CDN and edge nodes handle the audience side, caching and delivering streams close to viewers with real-time analytics.

For gaming we provide the low-latency backbone and hosting that keeps round-trip times short, always-on DDoS protection with application-aware filtering for UDP game protocols, and CPaaS APIs for in-game voice, chat, party invites and player verification. Studios and platforms get numbers and verify flows for account security, WebRTC for voice lobbies and SMS and email for tournament and event notifications - all on one platform with a 24×7 NOC that understands launch-day traffic.

Challenges

What keeps communications and network teams up at night.

  • Live events do not get a second take

A dropped contribution feed during a final or a launch is a broadcast failure watched by millions. Circuits to venues are often temporary, arranged in weeks and dependent on whatever infrastructure the site happens to have.

  • Latency is the product

Competitive gaming, live betting, cloud gaming and interactive streaming all break when round-trip time creeps up. Backbone routing, peering choices and server placement matter more than raw bandwidth, and they must be measured continuously.

  • Game servers are DDoS magnets

Multiplayer servers, matchmaking APIs and login services are attacked by players, rivals and extortionists alike, frequently with UDP floods that generic scrubbing handles poorly. Mitigation must be always-on and protocol-aware to avoid dropping legitimate players.

  • Global audiences, uneven last miles

Viewers and players are everywhere, but access networks vary wildly. Streams need to be cached and delivered close to the audience, with adaptive bitrate and analytics that reveal where quality of experience is slipping and why.

Solutions

  • Contribution and distribution

Managed video circuits from venues and studios to production and playout, primary and diverse paths, SRT, RIST and JPEG XS transport, distribution to affiliates and platforms, and occasional-use bookings for matches, concerts and shows.

  • Content delivery and edge

CDN for live and on-demand streaming with origin shielding, token authentication and real-time analytics, plus edge and GPU compute for transcoding, packaging and rendering close to viewers.

  • Low-latency backbone for game traffic

Dedicated internet and private Ethernet into our backbone with dense peering, direct on-ramps to the public clouds where your game servers run, and route engineering to keep RTT low between player regions and server locations.

  • DDoS protection for servers and streams

Always-on scrubbing with UDP and game-protocol awareness, application-layer filtering for login and matchmaking APIs, managed firewalls in front of hosting, and 24×7 detection and response for launches and tournaments.

  • In-game voice, chat and player verification

WebRTC voice lobbies and party chat, PSTN-connected voice for community and support lines, SMS and verify APIs for account security and tournament notifications, and numbers in 110+ countries for local presence.

Still have a question?

Ask our solutions team

For venues with existing fibre we can often provision within two to three weeks; for greenfield sites needing new fibre, microwave or bonded cellular, six to eight weeks is typical. We survey the site, agree primary and backup paths and provide on-site engineering support for the event window where required.
