Overview

Dollu in Canada.

Canada is served from Dollu's Ashburn PoP and through partner interconnect facilities in Toronto and Montreal, where we hold direct connections to Canadian incumbent and mobile operators. Termination into Canadian fixed and mobile destinations is available on Premium CLI-guaranteed, Standard and Wholesale tiers, and calls carrying Canadian numbers are signed under STIR/SHAKEN as the CRTC requires. Origination on Canadian numbers is delivered over SIP to customers anywhere, with 9-1-1 routing provisioned per number.

Dollu provisions local numbers across Canadian rate centres, including major NPAs such as 416, 647, 604, 514 and 403, and 8XX toll-free numbers that work across Canada and the United States. Numbers can be delivered to your SIP platform, Dollu's cloud PBX or CCaaS, or Microsoft Teams, and porting follows the Canadian LNP process with an LOA and matching account details. Every number is provisioned with 9-1-1 and, where required, next-generation 9-1-1 location data.

A2P SMS to Canadian subscribers is delivered over direct connections and Canadian aggregator routes to Rogers, Bell, Telus and the regional carriers. Long-code A2P traffic must be registered with the Canadian carriers, and short codes are obtained through the Canadian common short code programme. Every campaign must satisfy CASL consent, identification and unsubscribe rules. Enterprises with sites in Canada can also take SD-WAN, DIA and cloud connectivity through Dollu's carrier partners, with data processing kept in Canada where privacy rules demand it.

Regulatory & compliance

What you need to know before you order.

Our compliance desk manages the paperwork; here is what to expect.

  • CRTC rules and STIR/SHAKEN

The CRTC requires telecommunications providers to authenticate caller ID using STIR/SHAKEN and to apply universal call blocking for malformed numbers. Calls on Canadian numbers carried by Dollu are signed, and unsigned traffic is more likely to be blocked or labelled.

  • CASL for messaging

Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation requires express or implied consent for commercial electronic messages, clear sender identification and an unsubscribe mechanism that works for 60 days. Carrier registration is needed for A2P long codes and short codes.

  • KYC and 9-1-1

Number orders require business details, a Canadian service address for 9-1-1 and an authorised contact. Interconnected VoIP providers must deliver 9-1-1 with location information, and the transition to next-generation 9-1-1 is supported on Dollu numbers.

  • Privacy and data residency

PIPEDA and provincial laws such as Quebec's Law 25 govern personal data. Dollu can keep call and message processing in Canada or the United States as required and provides data processing agreements on request.

Yes. 8XX numbers are part of the North American Numbering Plan and can be configured to accept calls from Canada, the United States or both. Routing by originating region lets you send Canadian callers to a bilingual queue and US callers elsewhere.
